Wing Training 28/01/16

Postby Sealurk » Mon Jan 25, 2016 4:23 pm

Whoops, forgot to set the new thread and poll! As before, vote on your preferred focus for wing training this Thursday at 6pm GMT. Remember you can vote for up to three activities and you can change your votes at any time.

Please also post in the thread to say if you'll be attending and if you have any ideas for wing training that aren't listed.

Okay, I know I was an advocate for ensuring everyone is welcome regardless of whether they have the expansion or not, but the buggies are too fun. If anyone says they can't make it because of package limitation then I'd much prefer to change the training to something more accessible. Having a new player join us is even more fun than the buggies.

I'll be there Thurday. By the way what is the Astrobatics training?

Agreed, the buggies are fun but we don't want to exclude people - perhaps a separate Horizons-based session at a different time would be the solution?

The astrobatics thing was just a random concept I had and the name's a bit misleading - it would basically involve trying close formation flying as a way of getting us used to working in close proximity and being aware of where we are to avoid bumping into each other and flying into other commander's line of sight while in combat. The astrobatics name came from the notion that it might eventually evolve into a whole 'display team' thing a la Red Arrows/Blue Angels/Thunderbirds!

On a loosely related note, regarding Horizons - what do people think of the idea of practicing low level flight and/or joint ground/sky operations for base assaults?

low level formation flying sounds like good practice. Should we all meet up at George Lucas on Thurday?

Low level formation sounds fun, but what about the camera man? He won't have control when taking the picture. Bit dodgy at low level.

Well the activities don't have to be combined into one, so we could do the team photo, head to a planet, do the low level flying, land and do the SRV stuff or try a mix of SRV and ship tactics for ground assault.

Sounds like a plan :)

You will probably be glad to hear that I have come up with a solution to the Voice Attack play-through on Teamspeak. I have set teamspeak to push to talk, but set up voice attack to activate it for 3, 5, 10 or 15 seconds on voice command. Not only does this mean that I can use push to talk without giving up one of my joystick buttons or taking my hands off the controls, but I also have Voice Attack playing quindar tones :D. Sounds really cool from this end, but if anyone finds it annoying, let me know and I'll take them off.

You've got Voice Attack playing Quindar tones (I forgot their name, I just called them 'NASA beeps')? Seriously? That's the one thing that I miss from the in-game comms - you're going to have to tell me how you set that up!

I might be around tonight if you want to test the new Teamspeak settings. I'm still doing the rares run though I may cut it short, it's an awful lot of waiting for little reward compared to bounty hunting.

Also, is it just going to be the three of us again? ARC is starting to feel a bit small again.

I cut the tones out of a NASA recording of a test message during the Apollo missions. I have posted them here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/76ysvv94djwhnwi/QindarIn.wav?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wip282rdizqvyj4/QindarOut.wav?dl=0

I set up the Voice Attack macros as follows:

Press down <your push to talk key>
Play sound C:\...\QindarIn.wav
Pause <enough to talk> seconds
Play sound C:\...\QindarOut.wav (Wait until completes)
Release <your push to talk key>

I have 4 macros set to run for different times depending on what I want to say. I triger them by voice commands 'Copy one', 'Copy two' etc.

Edit: Added another macro triggered by 'over' that stops the other 4 and releases the push to talk button. In case I run out of stuff to say :)
