When we started we were just a few like-minded commanders who joined forces to fight in Conflict Zones in Bamileng and Konduwa, and we did a good job, flipping both systems to Alliance control. When Powerplay came out, several of us devoted a lot of time to undermining a rival power, deep in their territory. In June of last year we set up this site, ARC HQ, and shortly after that we initiated wing training to improve our combat abilities and get everybody used to the nuances of fighting in wings. After that... not much, to be fair. Many of us unpledged from Mahon or else reduced our focus on PowerPlay We got an in-game minor faction based out of Zaonce that has since expanded to at least two other systems, but even this hasn't received quite as much attention as it possibly should.
And that, I feel, is the problem. Yes, we kept up wing training for a while (and it should be making a return soon) but the focus drifted and it ended up just being a loose get together, Dayrth and others kept reporting new conflicts in Alliance space, but we haven't actually done anything big as ARC for some time. We've acquired some new members, but many don't even seem to visit the forum any more, and perhaps understandably.
In my opinion, part of the reason for this lack of activity is that we've never been wholly sure what it is we want to do with ARC, and I think we need to ask ourselves a few questions, then answer them honestly. If any of you come up with any more questions I'll add to them the list.
- Why did we set up ARC?
- Why didn't we just join the AEDC?
- What makes ARC different to other player groups?
- What should we do more of now?
- What do we want to see ARC doing in the future?
- How can we make this happen?
We've talked about getting a TeamSpeak server for ARC and I'm looking at ways of improving the board and the forum, but what else do we need? Should we institute a proper duty roster and assign volunteer commanders to fight in specific conflicts? Should we offer protection services for traders and explorers travelling through dangerous regions of space? Should we focus solely on advancing our in-game faction and attempting to direct its expansion into appropriate systems? Should we simply continue as we are, a loose association of like-minded commanders who occasionally wing up for the hell of it?
There's a lot of overlap in the questions in this post, but none of them are facetious or rhetorical. I (and presumably others) genuinely want to know what direction we should be pushing ARC.
