Alliance Combat CG in Arque

Postby Sealurk » Thu Aug 18, 2016 10:48 pm

That's right. They're rarer than hen's teeth and rocking horse manure and tend not to be well thought out but there is actually an Alliance focused security community goal, and it's pretty much right next door to our capital system*! It's started today and runs for a week, and I for one am heading there right now (well, I will once Thunder Child's finished fuelling from Arro Naga A) - not least because Alliance Rapid-reaction Corps is one of the factions in the system (5%).

Hand bounties in at Austen Town Station, 580 LS in, if you can find any.

RESs at:
Arque 2 (1 Low, 1 Haz)
Arque 3 (3 Low, 1 High)
Arque 4 (1 Low)

However, it seems general Alliance bounties work and they don't need to be from that system. I was carrying 250,000 Cr in Alliance bounties from LHS 20, handed them in at ATS and jumped straight into the top 25%, so you might not even need to hunt in Arque itself.

*Okay, it's about 20 ly but let's not quibble.

Dam. I find out about this just as I go away. I will be there Sunday though. At least Dayrth will. Commander A-R-C will be doing other things.

It's a good job I started my tourist holiday within the bubble. Off with my "Kiss Me Quick" hat and back into my Fer-de-Lance. It'll be good to get away from the smell of sun cream.

Today is going to be a bit busy for me but I shall be playing in the ARC group and willing to wing up as always.

Whew, the Haz RES around Arque 2 is a pretty decent place to find big targets. No cops to help you finish them off and distract them, but also no cops to get in your way. I haven't handed my winnings in it, so that's just asking for trouble, but I did just make it to the nearest ground base with 2% hull and a critical canopy after taking on a FAS and just barely winning. I think that's a good place to leave it tonight.

I notice that while there are plenty of RESs in Arque, almost all are low so they're not going to produce much challenge. There's one high and one hazardous, and of them only the haz seems to be producing Pythons, Condas, Clippers and Dropship variants for big payouts, and it's just far enough from the station where we need to hand the bounties in that I will be tempted to sit in the Haz RES for long periods, retreating only to repair and rearm, which could become very frustrating. If anybody knows of better RESs in other systems please let me know.

I should be around on and off tomorrow and Sunday if anybody wants to wing up.

Well, that's a bit of a setback. An Adder (an Adder! Oh the shame...) took out my life support and a series of unfortunate events prevented me from docking in time, so I've just lost about a million in bounties.

That's been a long day of collecting bounties, but the evening was fun since I winged up with Frank (and got repeatedly pancaked by his FdL!).

It was great winging up and I did better than I normally do on my own, but I think that's because you're a lot softer than the asteroids I usually barrel into by accident. It seems as though I've forgotten all the wing training we did last year <sigh>

I particularly enjoyed the experimental race to the station. It does suggest that if the station is less than 500ls from the jump point and you're currently further than 2500ls, then it is quicker to jump to another system and then jump back.

Yep, that race was fun and enlightening as there wasn't much in it in terms of time, but there is another reason to consider jump-turn-jump instead of supercruising to get from Arque 2's Haz RES to Austen Town Station - I tend to sit in a RES until I'm forced out by damage, usually when my hull is at 25-30% and modules are failing all around me but by that time I'm often carrying a lot of bounties, so one major bonus to the jumping method is avoiding interdictions on the way back.

Had some close calls last night, like when the game 'cheated' again. Frank and I had taken on a FAS with two DBS as escorts... only for two more DBS to drop in to the wing and start attacking us. An Elite FdL and a mostly A-rated FAS getting absolutely pummelled and running away, the scariest part was when I tried jumping out and I couldn't because of massive internal damage, and then something as simple as trying to land at a base turns into a farce.

There are definite benefits to jumping out of system sometimes. When we were fighting at Hun Nal Teh I'd set the FSD to Zaonce so there'd be less mass lock when I was high-tailing it out of there. I didn't pick the closest system during that fight. I wanted the ARC to profit from any repairs I needed to make.

Winged up with Frank again, had a pretty fun hour or so's flying involving sneaky stealth planets, considerate pirates, far too many ARC faction bad guys (a few of whom had existence privileges revoked once we saw them attacking other people, though we left most of them alive), trying to get to a USS and only realising at the last second it was on the other side of the rings, dodgy nav-lock, synchronised slaughter and spontaneous formation flying.
